Etiquette
The golden rule of foraging etiquette is to never take more from the land than you need, always leaving enough for the plants or fungi to reproduce and thrive.

TIPS
- Respect Private Property: Always get permission from landowners before foraging on private land.
- Leave Some Behind: The goal is to enjoy the bounty of nature, not deplete it. Take only what you need and leave plenty for others and future harvests.
- Mesh Bags for Spores: Spores are how mushrooms reproduce. A breathable mesh bag allows spores to disperse as you walk, helping the population thrive.
- Cut Cleanly: While the “cut vs pick” debate has no definitive answer, use a sharp knife to cleanly remove the mushroom at the base. Avoid disturbing the surrounding soil.
- Leave No Trace: Pack out all your trash, including wrappers and scraps.
- Respect Other Foragers: Public land is for everyone. Give others space and be courteous.
- Silent Hunter: While exciting to find mushrooms, avoid loud noises that disrupt wildlife.
- Protect the Ecosystem: Be mindful of your surroundings. Don’t trample on vegetation or damage natural features.
